Clash on the Charles & Bulldog Bash

Comments: This past weekend, the teams that stayed and played local events saw roster attrition that made the demands of those who were out there extremely high. The rosters were intentionally kept small, to be accommodative to the requests we’d heard from players and parents to keep rosters leaner whenever possible (mostly for playing time purposes). But we as coaches and directors always know that comes with significant risk, especially in fall, and we felt the downside of that risk/reward this past weekend. In total, between fall sports playoffs, illness and injury, 13 players in total dropped off Saturday/Sunday rosters within 48 hours of the start of the event. We fought the good fight and scrambled to balance things out and fill some of the holes, but we’ll concede our roster numbers were not to our standard.

Still, at the two events, we saw some great individual performances, and some teams rally and push to put forth a level of effort that in some cases exceeded expectations. As a program, we will react to what we saw this past weekend. One event we don’t intend to return to, another we will return to with teams of a higher caliber so we can enjoy more overall success. Most importantly, we’ll react to players who came and played their hearts out, and these players will be rewarded with the increase in national play they’ve proven they deserve in the seasons to come.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Well, we saw some players get going this past weekend.
